Session management
Session history, pinning and archiving, in-session actions, and automatic context management — keep long conversations under control.
Sessions and history
Every conversation is a session. The "Session history" panel in the left sidebar lists recent sessions; click one to return to its context and continue:
- Pin: right-click a session to pin it — frequent projects stay at the top (pinned items do not consume recent-list slots);
- Archive: move inactive sessions to the archive via batch management — archived sessions are hidden by default and can be restored from "Show archived" or deleted for good;
- Rename / export: right-click to rename or export a session's content.
In-session actions
While a session is running you can:
- Interrupt anytime: stop the current generation and keep what was already produced;
- Add instructions: insert new requirements between tool executions;
- Compact context: when the conversation grows long, a compaction prompt appears at the top — one click folds earlier content into a summary, freeing context space to continue.
Automatic context management
Context windows are finite. ChengYoung warns you as the window fills up and, on your confirmation, compresses earlier dialogue into a summary — the summary keeps goals and key conclusions, and the conversation continues from the compressed context. You can also click "Compact now" before the prompt appears.
Behavior is the same for local and cloud providers: compaction happens on your machine, and both the summary and the original text stay on your device.
